Did you know that in late December, 2008, a beer truck crashed at an intersection on the city of Kassel, in Germany, losing its load of 12 tonnes of beer in the process?
Eighty crates, or about 800 liters of beer were lost in the crash.
The amber fluid formed a small lake across the intersection, and according to police, almost immediately froze over due to the minus 4° Celcius (25° Fahrenheit) temperature at the time.
There were no reports of anyone being caught for skating under the influence of alcohol, although the truck driver was fined for failing to secure his load properly.
It’s not known if local entrepreneurs made a fortune selling beersicles.
An interesting fact about Kassel is that it is home to the first permanent theater building, the Ottoneum, which was built in 1604.
In another world first, Kassel was the first city in the world to be illuminated by Lasers. It occurred in 1977 during the Documenta 6 art exhibition.
Authors, the brothers Grimm, were educated in the city during the early 19th century.
